Although many websites will tell you that it is possible to get from Turin to Sauze d’Oulx using public transport in just over two hours they are referring to the actual journey time and do not take into account any waiting time.

In reality there is a bus from the airport to the station in Turin; then there is a train from Turin to Oulx (some are direct, some involve changes at Bussoleno); then another bus from Oulx to Sauze. You will need to buy three tickets in three different ticket offices, each may involve a queue. So what are the alternatives? Well, the nearest train station to Montgenèvre is in located 12km away in nearby Briancon, from where it is possible to travel to the nearby Montgenèvre airports of Grenoble and Marseille as well as Paris.

The second closest station is located approximately 19km away in Oulx, from where you can catch trains to Turin, Milan and Paris. The Alpine Transfer Company are pleased to offer an Oulx transfer service.

You could also do the Turin Montgenèvre journey by hiring a car at Turin Airport and then driving to the resort . If you do decide to do this, do think how much you will actually use the car once you are in the resort.  Montgenèvre is well established ski resort with supermarkets, pubs, nightclubs all right on your doorstep. Also if the weather is bad on the days you decided to drive to the airport the journey can become very non trivial.  I’ve got stuck on the Col du Montgenèvre quite a few times and fiddling about with snow chains in a blizzard is no fun at all.
