Caselle airport serves the Piedmont region, one of the most important areas in Europe in terms of population, resources and surplus value.
Many world-famous Italian and international companies are based in Turin and Piedmont .
Turin and its region, traditionally known for the automobile industry, have diversified their economic structure, moving increasingly towards sectors linked to research and innovation. Tourism has also benefited from this transformation, becoming a strategic activity for the development and promotion of the region whose jewel in the crown is the Venaria Royal Palace. Airports are a formidable asset for the economy and for employment in the surrounding areas. They also represent an important competitive advantage for the promotion of an area, increasing the capacity for competition. It is estimated that the global impact on employment generated by Torino Caselle airport is more than 3,000 jobs.

Love it! We are all pawns of the “white wealthy elite”. The masses? are distracted by this bullshit. If the wealthy elite wanted to stop illegal immigrations, there would be billions provided for border protection literally overnight. We should focus on those who run this plutocracy instead.

Kamau:
You are correct in your observation about the nature of Kenya's economic structure – the immediate impact of fibre will not be meaningful.
But bear in mind that our future development and prosperity hinges not on the industries and occupations of the past, but in embracing high-technology and value-adding services. For that, proper broadband is vital. What we need is the business nous and entrepreneurial energy to propel us to that future.
Neither do I.What governments, exclusive groups like the World Bank and other powerful banking groups, and the World Trade Organization, and industry executives have been doing are pushing us toward a humanitarian crises that will make the global impact of the Great Depression seem like a minor recession with fewer and milder hardships by comparison.
John McCain has been criticized for proposing an amnesty bill, compromising on judicial nominees, sponsoring a misguided campaign finance law and not infrequently losing his temper with members of his own party. All of this is true and more. And yet it's over. By splitting their votes between Huckabee and Romney, conservatives have ceded the nomination to John McCain. Romney has suspended his campaign and Huckabee has been running for Vice President for some time now. And despite many things I don't like about McCain's personality and past actions — we could do a lot worse.
Here is a partial list of reasons we can and should support McCain anyway:
1) He is honorable. In an age of poll-tested pandering, McCain is so unable to pretend that it is actually something he should work on in the sense of being able to convince conservatives he's serious on border security and other issues. McCain's literal inability to pander for votes is a political liability, but a moral strength. This of course, does not make a virtue of being wrong, no matter how admirably he strives for a position – but more on that below.
2) McCain is not staunchly conservative, but neither is he a liberal. Sens. Obama and Clinton are liberals in every sense who will grow government, raise taxes, weaken national security, ruin health care, expand welfare, and nominate federal judges who create law, rather than apply it. McCain's apostasies have been serious and several, but he is still a fiscal, foreign policy and social conservative demonstrated by his record. He is a moderate conservative, and it is this that will allow him to have a chance of winning and preventing the Democrats from controlling all three branches of government for the foreseeable future.
3) McCain can win. McCain alone, amongst Republicans, can attract the 30+ per cent of the electorate that identifies itself as independents, and that will mean everything in this election. McCain can also attract a significant percentage of Democrats. As the country has moved left and become profoundly dissatisfied with the last seven years of governmental futility–whether perceived or real–and as Democrats have doubled (!) Republican primary voter total this year, only a candidate with McCain's crossover appeal has a chance to maintain one branch of government for the Republican party. It is not that Republicans should feel compelled to “settle” for someone because of premature opinion polls. Rather they should simply remember that no candidate–no matter how appealing to conservatives–has ever advanced their agenda an inch by losing.
4) McCain's temperament can work for Republicans. McCain's temper has been well documented and all too often it has been directed at his Republican colleagues. In fact it is difficult to remember the last time his ire was inflicted upon a member of the opposition party. This bothers conservatives and it should. But McCain operates based on a sense of honor and fights for what he views as principles worth fighting hard for. And he has been remarkably successful with this approach despite a frequent lack of support from his own party. This can be a formidable asset if he can show he is willing to use it take on Democrats when he needs to – as he surely would at least on spending and withdrawing prematurely from Iraq. With the advisory bubble that inevitably envelopes a President, this is likely to happen.
5) Conservatives can extract specific pledges from McCain that no other constituency can. McCain generally eschews making pledges of what he will or won't do as President. Sometimes this is wise. But with recent scientific advances in adult stem cell research that will likely make human harvesting obsolete, surely McCain can open himself to the notion of moderating if not flat-out changing his position on this issue. Likewise, he should consider supporting a federal marriage amendment and base this on the quite legitimate developments of Massachusetts and other states' judicial overreaches forcing same-sex marriage, not to mention rouge Mayors like San Fransisco's Gavin Newsom flouting black letter law. This can mobilize the evangelical base, which will still be critical to McCain's electoral success. Conservatives should also relentlessly pressure McCain to take a stronger stance on immigration. This is probably the one area where McCain is most likely to fail if he does not have genuine change in perspective.
Conservatives do not have to pretend that McCain has not made mistakes. He has. He has also been in Congress for 26 years.
If elected, John McCain may turn out to be a very good or very bad President – but the same can really be said for every candidate before they serve in the highest office. There is no question there are well documented risks with McCain. We should leverage this genuine concern to remain more active and vigilant than ever, rather than withdrawing for politics now. McCain is not only conservatives' best choice at the moment, but he has the potential to be a very good choice. Only John McCain can decide.
Well said!
There is little doubt that there is a global impact of the credit crunch upon what businesses and individuals are prepared to pay for property. Prices falling to more realistic levels will help businesses. Sadly, by contrast in the UK, there is a glut of office space and the building trade is being straightjacketed during this time of economic stress.
Adonis,
I think you are correct about the Latin influence in Hawaii. The guitar was brought to the Hawaiian Islands by the Spanish at some point.
As for Jamaica, there is a Scots/Irish musical influence. In fact, Scots/Irish music has had global impact. American Country and Folk, Blues and Rock are all sprung from this fountainhead.
It's interesting to note that Bob Marley's father was Irish. Reggae has strong similarities to basic Country and Western music.
Good comment, Thanks!
Important tool to achieve competitive advantage
OK .. there are lots of issues here. For example, it is really up to discussion whether your explicit starting poiint here, i.e., that microfoundations are important for competitive advantage “has already been shown to be true in economics”. What exactly do you have in mind? Our best “micro-”theories of firms in economics are not about competitive advantage (but about economic organization).
The micro-foundations project in management is first and foremost a claim that our research strategies should change: We should explicitly account for the beliefs, prefences, heterogeneity etc. of individuals — which we don't really do in most of strategic management (and organizational theory and international business etc etc). Calling this a “tautology” is just a misnomer. It is about research heuristics.
This is of course based on the conjecture that new insights will emerge, e.g., on the relative contributions to firm-level competitive advantage of firm-level vis a vis individual level, on how interaction produces such collective level phenomena such as capabilities, etc. — things we are fundamentally ignorant about.
You explicitly claimed that there are no implications for firm performance of micro-foundations in a specific paper — which is n't correct. Now you relate that claim to the tautology issue (which is a non-issue). Tsk-tsk.

“Profit is the form of appearance taken by surplus value. Surplus value immediately reveals a social relation to us. Profit doesn’t. Profit obscures surplus value, and appears as a relation of capital to itself. Marx warns that the further we explore this world of appearance the more surplus value will seem divorced from profit.”
excellent way of putting it. Of course, “all science would be superfluous if the outward appearance and the essence of things directly coincided” (chapter on the Trinity Formula).
Re: simple production. I side with Chris Arthur's views on this. I think that simple reproduction for Marx is at a level of logical presentation: it wasn't an historical era. As for how the operation of the law of value came into fully swing, I would argue that it was down to the period of primitive accumulation, the “bloody legislation”, enclosures, highland clearances and so on. Capitalism was imposed by force. But there was no central authority that planned this – there isn't in capitalist society. The law of value operates as a blind average through time, but there is or was no parliament in the sky that wrote the legislation. I guess what I am trying to say is that there was no “spirit” of capitalism stalking the Earth waiting for the right “material conditions” to emerge.

I agree with your views on how the hybrid car is reshaping the automobile industry. I think its really good to see some new ideas of cars to help keep our environment clean and also with gas running short we need to think of new ideas so we can continue driving! I think its really neat the idea of the hover car. They already have a hover craft used in the military so Im sure the technology for a hover car will come someday. Good Blog Krikor!
It's time to start building some confidence in playing in the New Bldg ,It is a formidable asset to be so good on the road ,but getting someone like Indy or NE,away from home in the playoffs is what its going to take to get to the Bowl..but outside of the 2nd half Vs NE ,and the 1st half Vs Minn,we've stunk up the new joint,I dont know why but it needs to start this week ,Houston is a bad Road team ,but they are playing for there playoff lifes ,lets not get outworked and outfocused like we did Vs GB or they will kick our tails, they can move they ball, just cant stop it,so we should have big day out of our QB in the passing game,we've learned how to win on the road ,now lets beat down teams we should beat down at Home, make it a true ADVTG
…DENSE FOG TONIGHT… AREAS OF DENSE FOG WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE NORTHERN PIEDMONT REGION OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA AND NO
Though the Northerners and the Southerners would have liked to believe that they were to separate states there were many similarities between them. For example the toleration of religion both sections had. Both portions had and extraordinary amount of leniency though RI and Pennsylvania were a bit more lenient. Though both sections were highly influenced by England, think origin, language, culture, they did not have the rigid social structure and caste system prevalent in Great Britain and other European nations. The North and South both functioned under a self governing system even if some were representatives the peoples choice or the crowns.
A final point of similarity between the two sides was the mobility that was provided in the economic structure.

Dear Professor Haines-Young
I would be grateful if you were able to clarify the latitude that you are prepared to extent to us regarding the use, or otherwise of information for this exercise. For instance, there would be a number of legal frameworks and policies which have been taught as a part of this course which presumebly we might be expected to draw on?. There are also statutory requirements in legislation that specify the key responsibilities of RDA's and the various obligations they have to produce certain strategies which would be relevant to any tender submission. In addition to this of course, there are also specified delivery arrangements which are also prescribed to a large extent by central government.
Whilst accepting that RADEM is mythical, would it be inadvisable to draw on material put out in the so-called 'real world' as a basis to inform as to the types of support documentation that we might choose to draw on, in the altogether not unreasonable expectation that a functioning RDA would be expected to cover certain core activities.
If this is an acceptable practice in principle, where would the line exist between adopting and responding broad strategic activity e.g. a RES, and specific activity e.g. an environmental KPI?. I note that you have specified 4 'key themes' for instance (3 of which have a very familiar ring to them). Having adopted EMDA's broad strategic direction therefore, are you indicating that you are happy for us to adopt aspects of their associated sub-strategy by way of framing any specific proposals against targets or priorities?
Many thanks in anticipation

Mike,
An acquisition is a strategic activity that demands the full attention and involvement of the board. Having successfully led numerous transactions (both buy and sell side), my experience has taught me the board's proper role in M&A activity is to: (1) review and approve management's rational for the deal, (2) assess the suitability of the selected target with respect to the deal rational, (3) ensure the integration process/objectives are sound and (4) carefully monitor/measure the acquisition and integration activities against agreed upon milestones – not limited to financial metrics, include key employee retention as well as achievement of the strategic and operational goals.
I also strongly believe the board should conduct a ‘one year later’ analysis to compare initial financial projections to actual results and determine what should be changed/improved in future transactions. The modern effective board must have the will, industry savvy, and ability to debate and approve management’s strategic plan.
One of the most important areas of green living is our homes. Meet #green #builder Fred Koch:
How about “Thought Leadership”? In my past life, I saw this phrase in a PowerPoint created by our cohorts in Alpharetta. We had to google it to know what it meant. We decided to come up with our buzz words to throw around so we sounded really smart and trendy, too. Our goal was to use the word “cryogenic” when referring to credit card points. I'm not sure if we ever did it. But don't be fooled…this type of jargon is not restricted to cubeland. We had daily “pass-bys” at Ann Taylor. A pass-by was a phrase you would use as you “passed by” a client while you were performing “strategic activity”. (By the way, “strategic” is the word I swore I would never use after leaving “that place”.) One day our pass by was “Blue looks good on any skin tone.” I was dermined to use this so I could check it off my list of things to do. So I scoped out my clients and went in for the kill….a little too late. By the time I could shout, “Blue looks good on any skin tone!”, she had already moved on to another color and looked at me like I was crazy.
