Turin Caselle Airport

The modern airport occupies a covered area of more than 57 thousand square metres, on three levels, and is characterised by the huge window, offering a view of the runway, that embraces the spacious boarding lounge.
The various floors are connected and there are no architectural barriers, facilitating the passage of people with disabilities, for whom dedicated services are also available upon request.
The spacious waiting areas, the expansion of the commercial areas and the new and improved seating facilities guarantee a high level of service. In addition to comfort, another of Caselle’s strong points is the speed at which the various operations are carried out, a result of the improvements that have been made to the airport’s facilities.
These include the new baggage handling system (BHS), of around 13,800 sqm, equipped with highly sophisticated X-ray control equipment and capable of handling 3,200 baggages per hour, making the operation quicker and easier; the new terminal, located between the railway station and the multistorey car park, which has resulted in less congestion in the departure lounge during the busiest periods, and the increase in the number of hand baggage checkpoints, which has led to the streamlining of security-related operations.
Lastly, Turin also has a new General Aviation terminal for private air traffic. Visually, the structure is very impressive: elegant, but at the same time modern and functional.

Time magazine regards Hong Kong as the third major player in the global economy next to New York and London. It is a great pleasure for Hong Kong. However, how global is the outlook of Hong Kong?

World class infrastructure
Hong Kong has a world class international airport, Chek Lap Kok International airport. It is an important regional trans-shipment centre, passenger hub and gateway for destination in China, East Asia and Southeast Asia. Despite its short history, Hong Konh international Airport has won several notable international “Best Airport” awards. In 2001-2005 and 2007-2008, it came first in Skytrax’s World Airport Awards, and second in 2006. HKIA operates twenty-four hours a day, and is one of the world’s busiest airports in terms of international passengers and the second busiest airport in the world in terms of cargo movements. In 2007, HKIA handled 47.8 million passengers and 3.74 million tones of cargo. It is the primary hub for Asia Jet Partners, Cathay Pacific, Dragonair, Hong Kong Express Airways, Hong Kong Airlines and Air Hong Kong.

In order to sustain the growth of passengers, the Airport Authority formulated a “push and pull through” strategy to expand its connections to new sources of passengers and cargo. This means adapting the network to the rapidly-growing markets in China and in particular to the Pearl River Delta region (PRD). One was the opening of a new Airport-Mainland Coach Station. The 36 bays at the new Coach Station allow cross-border coaches to make 240 trips a day carrying passengers between the airport and 70 cities and towns in the PRD.

Also, HKIA’s network to China is also expanded by the opening of SkyPier in 2003, offering millions in the PRD direct access to the airport. Passengers coming to SkyPier by high-speed ferries can board buses for onward flights while arriving air passengers can board ferries at the pier for their journeys back to the PRD. Passengers travelling both directions can bypass custom and immigration formalities, which reduces transit time. Four ports – Shekou, Shenzhen, Macau and Humen (Dongguan) – were initially served. As of August 2007, SkyPier serves Shenzhen's Shekou and Fuyong, Dongguan's Humen, Macau, Zhongshan and Zhuhai. Moreover, passengers travelling from Shekou and Macau piers can even complete airline check-in procedures with participating airlines before boarding the ferries and go straight to the boarding gate for the connecting flight at HKIA. The provision of cross boundary coach and ferry services has transformed HKIA into an inter-modal transportation hub combining air, sea and land transport.
Besides, Ramp handling services are provided by Hong Kong Airport Services Limited (HAS), Jardine Air Terminal Services Limited, and Menzies Aviation Group. Their services include the handling of mail and passenger baggage, transportation of cargo, aerobridge operations and the operation of passenger stairways. The airport has an advanced baggage handling system (BHS), the main section of which is located in the basement level of the passenger terminal, and a separate remote transfer facility at the western end of the main concourse for handling of tight connection transfer bags.
HKIA currently handles well over three million tonnes of cargo annually. Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited operates one of the two air cargo terminals at the airport. Its headquarters, the 328,000 m² SuperTerminal 1, is the world’s second largest stand-alone air cargo handling facility, after the opening of the West Cargo Handling Area of the Shanghai Pudong International Airport in 26 Mar 2008. The designed capacity is 2.6 million tonnes of freight a year. The second air cargo terminal is operated by Asia Airfreight Terminal Company Limited, and currently has a capacity of 1.5 million tonnes a year. It is envisaged that HKIA’s total air cargo capacity per annum will reach nine million tonnes ultimately.
Besides, HKIA is well linked by different transport such as rail, bus, Taxi and ferry. The Kowloon Bus Company is even the world’s largest bus company. With the world class transportation system makes Hong Kong more globalized as its linkages with the world are intensive.

Extensive roles on the world stage
Hong Kong has an important role on the world stage. For example, Hong Kong is one of the important members in the APEC, world Trade Organization, International Monetary Fund, Bank of International Settlements, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices and Trade Development Council. By joining such economic and health organizations, Hong Kong can have more say in the economic decision-making process and figure out policies which are beneficial to Hong Kong. The roles in such important multi-national groups increase Hong Kong’s status as a global city too.

Compared with Shanghai, it can not directly access to the world economic organ as it only one city of China. Thus, Shanghai is more likely a strong economic city in Mainland China rather that a global economic city. For Singapore, it does not play a major role in the international economic organization compared with Hong Kong. In this aspect, it seems that Hong Kong is a global city rather than Shanghai and Singapore.

English as the official language
Hong Kong once was a colonial city under the British rule. During the British rule, English was greatly encouraged as it is the official language of Hong Kong. After the handover, English remains the official language in Hong Kong. Although there are many criticisms on Hong Kong people’s English level now, it is true that there are large populations Hong Kong can speak English to communicate with foreigners.

Also, compared with the time under the British rule, more and more people can access to the tertiary education which means that more and more people can accept the higher level of English education. This would help Hong Kong to be more internationalized and more competitive compared with Singaporeans who can speak fluent English.

Multi-cultural cosmopolitan city
It is no doubt that Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan city with the mixture of both Chinese and Western culture. In Hong Kong, you can feel the traditional culture, like the Wong Tai Shing Temple and the Po Lin Monastery. Also, you can find many Muslim temples, Catholic churches in Hong Kong. These showed that Hong Kong fulfills the requirement of being an international city which is free for different religion and culture. Also, Hong Kong is a paradise for shopping and eating, people can shop for international brands such as LV and Armani in their flagship stores in Hong Kong. Also, people can taste Japanese food, Thai food, Indian food, Italian food, French food, Chinese food as well as the Vietnamese food in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, there are international schools for teaching the children what come to Hong Kong with their parents. All these make Hong Kong being a cosmopolitan city for attracting the foreign businessmen.

According to Rowse’s speaking, Hong Kong government brought the Disneyland to Hong Kong is clever. Although Hong Kong has Ocean Park, the foreign tourists may think it is a good place for traveling but may not the top destination for family. By absorbing the Disney culture in Hong Kong, which is regarded as the whole world of Americans can attracts more Americans to invest in Hong Kong. Most of the global cities in the world do have Disneyland in their countries. Disneyland is the symbol for globalization and the symbol for a global city which has close economic relationship with the world’s leading economy, the U.S.A. Hong Kong is one of them.

Therefore, Hong Kong is no doubt a global city with the helping of the above factors.

Nice to hear someone is passing along the fun of shortwave radio.
Many stations will reply to listener reports with a QSL of some sort which can be fun to collect. The World Radio TV Handbook is a very good addition to Passport. If your receiver has SSB you can also listen to some commercial and private air traffic (international) not to mention shipping lines and small fleets. All of this can serve to maintain a youngster's interest in what can become a great hobby and learning tool that can lead to Amateur (Ham) radio and beyond.

This article had some really strong points, but the negative seem to shine through.Corsi can be despicable, but the solution isn't to praise Obama for being a great person and ignoring his spinelessness on a number of pertinent issues (see previous posters). It was quite obvious that this article was written by a member of the Democratic establishment especially with the Nader bashing.Give it up! Nader is not the problem. The Democrats don't want to end the war. The Democratic Party establishment doesn't care about much aside from their power and money.

Middo,I read Psalm One yesterday. It has a line there saying, “God charts the road you take.” What do you think this means? That God lets us go our own way and then maps it. Because if you're exploring an area you only map it once you've covered the area, otherwise you're just guessing aren't you?Juts something else for you to think about. I am so I may as well hand it over to you.

I will continue to fly Etihad every chance I get.

In front of my laptop anywhere, but mostly (especially during the spring), outside with the tree buds beginning to sprout, the hint of summer on the breeze. I miss my deck (the townhouse I vacated) right now. I used to sit outside at sunrise with my coffee and my laptop and watch as the sun came up through the huge pine trees that covered the area right behind my deck. I am going to try to create something here at Jonathan's outside for me to sit in the mornings when I write. There is something blissfully connecting when I write outdoors, nearly meditative in its simplicity.

Just out of curiosity, how big is your home in square metres? Mine is 55m. including balcony (it goes without saying that I have no yard, I don't know anybody who has one!). It is the largest apartment I have ever lived in in Japan, and was originally built to house a three-generation family of 4-6 people. It's too big for me, I wish to move someplace smaller.

Dedicated hosting gives you the opportunity to lease an entire server for your own exclusive use.Dedicated services include the lease of pre-configured equipment and connectivity from a hosting provider. The equipment and connectivity are fully managed by the hosting firm but the operating system & software is of your choice, you can also individualize settings for your multimedia and e-commerce requirements. Dedicated servers are a good choice for customers that require custom software or enhanced server control but do not want to make the significant up-front investment required in purchasing a server.

theodp writes "Having already assembled a private Air Force, Google’s top execs now seem to be turning their attention to building a personal Navy. At last count, CEO Eric Schmidt’s wife had assembled a stable of three classic racing boats — the Swan 80 Selene, the 46-foot W-class Equus and the Alerion Mischief. Perhaps not to be outdone, the press is reporting that Google founder Larry Page just snapped up a $45 million superyacht called Senses from New Zealand businessman Sir Douglas Myers, who referred to the ostentatious-yet-awesome yacht as his ‘adventure boat.’ As Google likes to say, ‘just the latest steps in Google’s commitment to a clean and green energy future.’ So, do Google execs eat their own carbon footprint calculator dogfood?" The TU has had follow up on the death of this young man, with articles and comments on some editing decisions it made. Here is an excerpt from an article written by Paul Grondahl. Keep it in mind if you know someone who can use some support. We all need help sometimes in life.

“Samaritans Suicide Prevention Center in Albany….. begun locally in 1985, is short of volunteers. It has 20 trained volunteers and needs 40 more to staff its confidential hot line.

The hot line receives about 1,500 calls annually.

Samaritans also offer prevention education and support services for survivors.

“Our volunteers can't solve these deep, complex problems, but they offer a compassionate, non-judgmental ear and emotional support,” Ordonez said.

The national suicide rate has steadily declined since the early 1990s, but two age groups — teenagers and college-aged — have seen a slight increase.

A common misperception is that the Christmas and New Year season is a peak time for suicides — spring and early summer are the busiest periods — although holidays can deepen depression and trigger suicidal thoughts.

Finding help

If you or someone you know is on the verge of attempting suicide, call 911 immediately. The local Samaritans Suicide Prevention Center hot line is staffed most days from 2 to 10 p.m., depending on volunteer availability. Call 689-HOPE.

For a 24-hour national suicide prevention hot line, call (800) 273-TALK.”

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department says it will not review the boundary of Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park. The conservation department made known its stance despite a recent remapping of the area by the Lands Department, which would have enlarged it by about 2,800 square metres and offered the coral-rich bay better protection from development. The land agency, which completed the remapping on October 15, produces maps and identifies high-water marks, but is not empowered to designate the boundaries of a marine park

I remember being dizzy after the MRI but blamed that on my anemia. Did read this on RadiologyInfo.com about X-ray contrast agent before I had my UFE:
Allergy to x-ray contrast material: An occasional patient may have an allergic reaction to the x-ray contrast material used during uterine fibroid embolization. These episodes range from mild itching to severe reactions that can affect a woman's breathing or blood pressure. Women undergoing uterine fibroid embolization are carefully monitored by a physician and a nurse during the procedure, so that any allergic reactions can be detected immediately and reversed.

You know I had to find a link. ;-)
